WhatsApp for Android to Introduce In-App Contact Editing Feature for Improved User Convenience

WhatsApp for iPhone has a convenient feature that lets users add or edit contacts within the app, eliminating the need to switch between apps. Android users will soon have access to this functionality. A few beta users have reported seeing a new UI screen that allows them to add or edit contacts similar to the Contacts app, according to reliable WhatsApp tipster WABetaInfo.

WhatsApp Beta Users Previewing New Platform Feature

As per a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, there is a "New Contact" UI screen where users can set parameters such as First Name, Last Name, and Phone number along with the country code and the option to save the contact locally in the device or store it in the user's Google Account.

The user can also make changes to previously saved contacts, such as adding inputs to new fields like birthdays or email addresses, directly on WhatsApp.

This isn't a groundbreaking feature by any means, but it solves the pain point of having to save the contact in one application and then hop on to WhatsApp to communicate with the said contact. Also, having the option to edit the contact in the same application saves a few seconds and doesn't let the user juggle between multiple apps.

When Will This Feature Arrive For Everyone?

The feature is currently available to some WhatsApp users on the beta channel, but according to the report, it will be made available to more users in the coming days.

That apart, WhatsApp is also brewing an individual chat lock feature that safeguards your chats from prying eyes. The Meta-based application is also bringing audio chats and a Telegram-like Newsletter feature to Android.
