WhatsApp for iPad might get voice calling support
WhatsApp might bring voice calling support to the iPad version.
We have been hearing that WhatsApp is developing a dedicated app for iPad for quite some time. But the Facebook-owned company has not revealed any official word regarding the iPad version of WhatsApp till date. As of now, only the Android, iOS and Web versions of the app exist. However, the recent claims suggest that WhatsApp for iPad might support voice calls.
According to WABetaInfo, a fan site of WhatsApp that tracks the changes and upcoming features of the platform has come up with this interesting claim. The Twitter handle of WABetaInfo states that WhatsApp for iPad will support voice calls and leaves a question if WhatsApp Web will also support voice calls in the future.
Though there is no other word regarding WhatsApp for iPad, we can expect the app to support other features those were introduced for smartphones in the recent times in addition to voice calls. Notably, this is not the first time that we are hearing about the iPad version of the instant messaging app. The same website had claimed that WhatsApp is prepping an iPad client as the WhatsApp Desktop version 0.2.6968 app revealed some references for the iPad version.
The WABetaInfo blog states that WhatsApp Web might also support voice calls. Given that WhatsApp for iPad will be similar to WhatsApp Web that is something like a web app with push notifications, it is possible that the voice calls support will be rolled out to WhatsApp Web as well.
The blog does mention that though there are hidden references for the support of voice calls in the web version, there is no strong evidence confirming the same. It is claimed that this feature is currently under development and that there could be an official confirmation in the near future. Whatever it is, there is no denying that the voice calls support will be a boon for the Web and iPad users of the instant messaging platform.
Recently, it was announced by the Facebook CEO that WhatsApp has bagged 1.5 billion monthly active users. Given that the user base is increasing on a consistent basis, we can expect many new features to be rolled out by the company in order to make it more engaging and render a better user experience.
