WhatsApp Video Message, Allowing 60-sec Video on Chat, Coming Soon

WhatsApp, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is soon going to allow users to share 60 second video messages over chats. The feature is being rolled out through the latest beta updates on Android and iOS platforms.

This much-awaited feature is now available for those who have access to the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.12.0.71 and WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.4.

WhatsApp Video Message Feature Details

As per a report in WABetaInfo, users will now be able to record 60 second video messages and send them over WhatsApp chat to their contacts.

According to the screenshot shared through a tweet by WABetaInfo, those who have already received the beta update, are able to see a video icon, where there originally used to be a microphone or audio icon, on the bottom right side of the screen. This icon is beside the message box.

Point to note is that users can still choose to send audio messages to their contacts. They have to just tap on the video icon instead of holding it. Basically, to record audio, one has to tap once on the icon while to record video, they'll have to hold the icon.

Similarly to how the audio message options function, users will be able to record videos real-time to send via chats.

A key point is that this feature can only be accessed if both the user and the recipient of the message have updated to the latest beta versions.

WhatsApp confirmed that all video messages recorded and sent through the platform are end-to-end encrypted for privacy.

It will also not be possible to forward video messages. WABetaInfo, however, did mention that users can keep a version of the video if they chose to screen record it.

Popularity of Audio Messages

The video feature follows the fact that WhatsApp audio messages are quite a popular feature among users. The audio feature primarily allows users to record an audio message and send, without calling a contact. The company revealed that 7 billion voice messages are sent on the platform daily.
