You Can Now Share Videos in HD on WhatsApp: Here’s How to Use It

WhatsApp recently rolled out support for sharing HD photos and said that the option to share HD videos would be coming soon. Now, the Meta-owned messaging platform is making good on its promise by rolling out support for sharing HD videos.

Previously, videos with high resolution were compressed and capped at 480p, the app's previous resolution benchmark. However, the most recent update removes these restrictions, allowing users to share high-definition videos with a maximum resolution of 720p.

A Seamless Sharing Experience

Sharing HD videos is as easy as sharing HD photos. After selecting the video or videos you want to share, a prominent HD button appears at the top of the screen, offering you the option to share in high quality. When you tap the button, a dialog box appears with two options: Standard Quality or HD Quality. The file sizes for each option are also displayed, so you can make an informed decision based on your preferences and network conditions. Once you've made a choice, the video-sharing process is the same as usual, keeping with WhatsApp's user-friendly nature.

WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption ensures that images and videos shared on the app are only accessible to the sender and intended recipients.

Recognizing High-Definition Content

When recipients receive an HD video in the app, they are greeted with a small but significant detail: an HD badge next to the video. This badge indicates that the video has been shared in high-definition quality. This allows viewers to quickly assess their available storage space and bandwidth to see if they have the necessary resources to watch the video in HD.

TechCrunch reports that the functionality is already being rolled out to devices, and some users are already able to share HD videos. This feature is being made available to both Android and iOS devices at the same time.
