YouTube for desktop may get Picture-in-Picture mode soon
The feature is currently in testing and several changes will be made before the final release.
YouTube may soon add a new feature to its desktop site. As reported by 9to5Google, YouTube's desktop version is currently testing the picture-in-picture (PiP) mode. Most of you maybe aware, the PiP mode is one of the most useful features of Android 8.0 Oreo. The PiP mode is already present in the Android and iOS version of YouTube.

In PiP mode, YouTube users can watch a video while browsing the site at the same time. When you are browsing the site, the video that you are watching gets minimized to a floating window. So you can do other things on the site like scroll through the feed or search for a new video. As stated, this feature is already available in YouTube for Android and iOS.
9to5Google reports that the PiP feature is now available on both Chrome and Safari browsers for select users. The feature works in a similar way; when a video is played and the users clicks anywhere on the screen, the video will get minimized to a "sizeable" floating window at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Do note that the PiP mode may be exclusive to YouTube Red subscribers.
The report says that users will be able to play/pause, replay, or watch the next video in the PiP mode. It also reveals that the titles of the videos will be located at the bottom so the complete playlist can be been through an icon at the bottom-right corner.
There will probably be a slight difference in the PiP mode between the YouTube app and desktop version. As you know, in the app, users have an option to enable or disable the floating window. This particular feature seems to be missing in the app's desktop version. However, the feature is currently in testing and several changes will be made before the final release.

It appears that YouTube is trying to offer a better viewing experience to its users. That said, the company has not released a statement on this and it is unclear when will we get to see a wider rollout of the picture-in-picture mode.
