Remember the last minute name change in the case of new iPad? Though it was widely addressed as iPad 3 – being the third generation tablet, at the last minute, Apple announced its name as new iPad.

Way back in August, John Gruber of Daring Fireball raised the speculation on the name of the smaller tablet based on its thinness and lightness. According to his post, the smaller iPad may not be referred to as iPad Mini but as iPad Air.

Likewise, the current rumors also suggest that iPad Mini will be introduced as iPad Air being the smaller, more portable and lightest device from the Apple's ecosystem.
