Microsoft Confirms Windows 11 Version 24H2 as Next Major Update, Dispelling Windows 12 Rumors
After much speculation surrounding the potential release of Windows 12 in the latter half of 2024, Microsoft has officially put an end to these rumors by confirming that Windows 11 version 24H2 will be the next major feature update to arrive this year. This revelation comes from a recent blog post by Microsoft in the Windows Insider program.
Windows 12 Ain't Coming Anytime Soon
Despite widespread speculation fueled by various industry sources, including Qualcomm's CEO, about the possibility of a Windows 12 release, Microsoft has clarified that there are no plans for such an operating system update. Instead, the tech giant is focusing on enhancing Windows 11 with significant AI integrations.

Embracing AI in Windows 11 Version 24H2
Microsoft's roadmap for 2024 outlines ambitious goals for Windows 11, particularly in integrating AI throughout the operating system. The upcoming version 24H2 patch for Windows 11 is poised to introduce groundbreaking AI-powered experiences, leveraging hardware-accelerated Neural Processing Units (NPUs) present in the latest "AI PCs" announced earlier this year.
Annual Release Cycle and Future Updates
In a strategic move, Microsoft is reverting to an annual release cycle for major Windows feature updates, with version 24H2 serving as the sole significant update for Windows 11 in 2024. This decision aims to streamline the update process while ensuring continued support for Windows 11 through smaller feature drops referred to as "Moment" updates.
Not proceeding with Windows 12 seems wise for Microsoft. With Windows 11 facing adoption challenges and lagging behind Windows 10 in popularity, introducing another OS could further fragment the user base. While Windows 12 might still be a possibility in the future, it's unlikely to happen this year.
