Google Home and Google Home Mini smart speakers powered by Google Assistant were launched in India on Tuesday for Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 4,499 respectively. These speakers are meant to directly compete with the Amazon Echo lineup of speakers launched last year in the country. In order to stiffen the competition further, Amazon Echo and Echo Dot have received a limited period price cut.
Notably, Amazon is offering the limited period discount until April 12 on the purchase of two units of either of these speakers. In order to avail this offer, buyers of two Amazon Echo Dot units in the same order will receive a discount of Rs. 1,000. Likewise, the buyers of two Amazon Echo units in the same order will get a discount of Rs. 3,000. The respective discounts will be applied automatically during checkout. The offer is eligible only for those orders made from Cloud connect_SLP or Estore mall sellers on Amazon India.
The Amazon Echo lineup of speakers was launched in India in October 2017 and was available via an invite system. This lineup comprises of Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Plus. It was only recently that these smart speakers powered by Amazon Alexa were made available via offline and online channels without the necessity of an invite.
At the time of their launch, the Amazon Echo speakers were available with a 30% discount and free Amazon Prime membership worth Rs. 999 on the purchase of any of these speakers. However, these offers are not valid anymore. With the 30% discount, the Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus were priced at Rs. 3,149, Rs. 6,999 and Rs. 10,499 respectively.
Without the special offer, the Amazon Echo Dot is available at a price point of Rs. 4,499 and the Echo is available for Rs. 9,999. The Echo Plus, the advanced one in the lineup comes at a price point of Rs. 14,999. It is not surprising to know that the Amazon Echo Plus has not received any discount as the Google Home Max, which is its direct rival has not been launched in India along with the Home and Home Mini speakers.
