Snapchat is gain momentum, thanks to the unique filters and photo editing capabilities that it offers. However, not all Snapchat features can be fun. The new geofilters feature can prove to be highly risky for the users.
It has been for really long that Snapchat has been testing its geofilter feature, and has finally launched it for its users. The feature replicates and is quite similar if not completely to the Facebook's 'Nearby friends' feature.
Using this feature, Snapchat users can now check in like that of Facebook when you are at movies or out for lunch.
However, these location features can often prove to be extremely risky for the users as it reveals their current location and helps anyone to easily stalk them.
Ways to Disable the Geofilters on Snapchat
#1: All the Snapchat user can do to hide the location is turn off the location services and not allow Snapchat to sense about your location.
#2: To disable the geofilters, the user can simply go to Settings>Tap on Privacy>Location Services, and toggle it OFF. Ensure that the individual Snapchat app is also toggled "OFF."
#3: The Snapchat user can also tap on the settings cog at the top right corner, and choose the "Manage" option with which the Snapchat user can simply toggle OFF Filters, which will disable the geofilters.
Snapchat's Geofilter Location Tracking Feature Can Be Creepy
Geofilters have the ability to easily identify a venue, neighborhood or specific event, which can often turn out to be problematic when a Snapchat user share their story. This is because, snaps are timestamped, and this makes it easier to trace the users whereabouts.
The reason why the Snapchat location tracking feature can often prove to be really creepy is it reveals the users' location and in turn their activities. This may help someone to track or stalk you causing a high risk.
How Geofilters Works
Snapchat geofilters allow the users to add specific, location-based filters to their photos. Hence, if a Snapchat user clicks a picture in a location, they will experience different geofilters compared to that of being in some other place.
Therefore, Snapchat can monetize geofilters by stuffing ads into them as and when you send snaps from a certain location.
