RailTel, a Miniratna PSU of Indian Railways, is offering free WiFi facilities at the Dera Baba Nanak Railway station in Punjab. However, users can access this free Railwire WiFi inside the railway station premises only. At present, the company is providing free Wi-Fi at 5300+ railway stations across the country and now it is planning to launch its services at all railway stations (except the halt ones).
The company is providing this service under its 'RailWire'- the retail Broadband initiative, which caters enterprises, SMEs, and homes. In fact, the company is expected to offer 8 Mbps speed at the station. The company has also informed that "RailTel had to erect two 30-meter-tall towers for Radio link to provide connectivity as Dera Baba Nanak is at a distance of 49 km for which repeater had to be provided for connectivity to the farthest/ remotest point in Punjab near International Border." But users need to follow a couple of steps to take advantage of the new service.
Step 1: To access this free service, users first need to switch on their WiFi mode, and then they have to select the RailWire Wi-Fi network.
Step 2: After that, the homepage will automatically appear on the smartphone. Then users need to enter their mobile number on that homepage.
Step 3: Then users will get a one-time password (OTP) through SMS, which has to be entered on the home page of RailWire. After entering that OTP, users can use access high-speed internet from RailTel.
