    Huawei's sub-brand Honor has gained much popularity in India, especially because the China based company takes special care when it comes to designing, features and prices of it's smartphone range.

    Recently, the company added one more feather to its basket of offerings - the Honor 5X, a mid-ranger smartphone priced at Rs. 12,999.

    The Honor 5X, the successor of the last year launched Honor 4X, comes with significant specs upgrade and a very intelligent fingerprint scanner on board, especially when compared to other options at this price range.


    This phone is made up of brushed metal, which the phones in this price range do not offer. At the same time, Honor 5X gives a premium look and feel. The metal used looks premium, while the up and bottom are made of plastics, but certainly you can't tell the difference by just by looking at it. The volume controllers are on the right side and have a great touch control, the headphone jack is on the top, while the speakers and charging port at the bottom.

    It's a pretty light device at 158 grams and not to thick either at 8.mm, and also it has the LED notification. Overall, the design wise Honor 5X will give you a great tactile feedback and a pleasant experience!


    The display of the phone measures a nice 5.5-inch LCD panel which comes with a resolution of 1080pixels. The quality over here is actually incredible. The colors are vibrant, they're not too over saturated and the display gives a warm and cool feel. The display is bright enough, even outdoors and with the 1080p resolution, the company has made to give quite crisp text, easy readable.


    Honor 5x comes with a Snaprdragon 615 processor with and Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. With the specs packaged of course you shouldn't expect it to be the fastest phone in the market, however Honor 5X is pretty impressive in terms of performance.

    When you see other smartphones in the market with the same processor specs, Honor 5X is decent enough.


    Well, it's the most interesting segment of the smartphone as there's a fingerprint scanner at the back for which the placement has improved with each new launch of the Honor phones.

    The rear placement of the fingerprint reader definitely grows on you, and it makes it pretty easy to unlock the device. You won't find such an easy to use fingerprint scanner on a budget-friendly device every day. Apart from unlocking, the fingerprint scanner also performs some gesture controls. Swiping up launches the Recent Apps screen, a tap takes you back to any previous screen, and a tap and hold functions as a home button.

    Swiping down opens the notification drop down, and you can even use the scanner to answer calls, silence alarms, and take photos.



    It runs Android 5.1.1 out of the box snapped with heavily skinned EMUI 3.1 which is present in all Honor phones. The notification pull-down is very well organised which is in two parts, one for notifications and another for shortcuts. Honor 5X also offers lots of customization options, like themes, animations, homecreen grids, auto align and more. Huawei also says the phone will receive a lot of software upgrades like the Marshmallow, EMUI 4.0 and more, which is great to hear.


    The Honor 5X comes with a 13 MP rear shooter, with a f/2.0 aperture, and a dual tone LED flash, along with a 5 MP front-facing unit. In optimal conditions, the device promises to click beautiful pictures that has the right amount of color, brightness and softness in them.

    There's an HDR option as well to brighten the photos. In night conditions, the camera will take bright photos, and at the same time, you can also shoot 1080p videos. Additional video features are slo-mo and object tracking which is pretty cool. The camera is definitely better when compared to it's predecessor.


    As for battery, Honor 5x has got a 3,000mah non removable battery inside, and also, you can take advantage of EMUI battery saver option, you can get some extra hours of battery life using the smart mode.


    Well, without hesitation, Honor 5X is a great purchase. At this price, Honor 5x offers you the best metal design and fingerprint scanner in the market, which are restricted to high end phones right now.

    It has got a large screen, and feature packed operating system and a dependable battery life.
