Huawei has been teasing its futuristic smartphone which goes by the moniker Honor Magic for a while now. Putting an end to the wait, Honor had pulled the wraps off the smartphone yesterday at an event in China.
The Honor Magic sounds like just another high-end smartphone with a gimmicky name, right? But is it really so? Well, that’s for you to decide, but before you jump to any conclusions, allow us to explain why it’s not “just another smartphone.”
Note: We had already covered the launch news yesterday, should you be interested you can take a look at it here.
So, what is it that makes this smartphone unique.
The smartphone, as you may know already, is equipped with an AI-based assistant. Now what makes it special is its ability to predict your needs before you do and provide 'human-like interactions.’ The Honor Magic gleans these AI-based sorceries via Honor Magic Live — the company’s proprietary operating system based on Android Marshmallow. So, without further ado, let’s check out what the smartphone is capable of.
Artificial Intelligence Features
One of the highlights of the phone is its contextual suggestions. Much like Google’s AI-based assistant, the smartphone will intelligently offer suggestions based on the context. Let’s say, you are having a conversation about movies with one of your friends, the Honor Magic detects it and then recommends the latest super hit films for you.
Similar to Google’s ‘Now on Tap’ the Magic has something called ‘DeepThink’ which can be invoked by pressing and holding the home button. This feature will offer you various kinds of information based on the web page you are in currently.
What’s more, you may ask?
It can display your cab driver’s license plate information on requesting for a cab from the smartphone, it can automatically show your movie ticket booking number when you arrive at the theater, display the parcel tracking number automatically while you are in close proximity to the parcel collection counter, and much more. Isn’t that cool?
The Honor Magic has a special sensor named WiseScreen sensor which, in tandem with an infrared sensor in the front facing camera recognizes the owner’s hands and eyes once he picks up the phone and turns on the screen automatically. Also, the screen will automatically turn of should you put it away or into your pockets.
FaceCode Intelligent Recognition
This feature should come in very handy especially for those who are very conscious about their privacy. As the name itself suggests, this feature recognizes users faces and displays messages or notifications only to the ones whose faces are pre-registered. Meaning you don’t have to worry about people picking up your phone and end up seeing the images, they are not supposed to see.
