Micromax to launch Yu Yuphoria and Yureka Successors in 2016
Yu Televentures, the Micromax subsidiary postponed the launch event of the Yu Yunicorn smartphone that was pegged for a May 19 launch earlier. Well, the launch will happen on May 31. GizBot has got to know more details about the Yunicorn and the future launches as well.
Yu is planning to launch the successors of the previous models such as Yureka and Yuphoria by the end of this year. Talking of the Yunicorn, it will be based on Project Highway.
Project Highway is Android on steroids
Earlier this week, Yu announced that it will open source the OS on its devices and invite developers to download as well as contribute to the new Open OS of Yu. Project Highway is an open source code supply chain management system that is meant for Yu smartphones.

As a part of the Project Highway, Yu will curate source codes from different drop points like Chipset Vendors Repos, Google's AOSP repos, internal YU customization and create a manifest that will support the Yu devices and other Android devices as well.
Moreover, the beta build of Android Marshmallow will be available for the previous Yu smartphones including Yureka, Yuphoria, Yureka Plus, and Yunique. The stable version will arrive next month.
Project Highway will give the ability for Yu to cook up distinct software for the devices. This is much needed when the exclusive partnership with Cyanogen is over.

The Project Highway will be based on stock Android and Yu will have several features added to the same. Around Yu is the most important of these features. The company will try its best to retain the look and feel of the software somewhere close to pure Android.
Yu Yunicorn likely to run on Helio P10 SoC
As per a leaked benchmark listing, the Yu Yunicorn is believed to feature a FHD 1080p display and draw power from a 1.83 GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor. It speculated to be a dual SIM smartphone with a capacious battery backup.
We will get to know more details of the Yu Yunicorn smartphone on May 31 as the device gets launched in India.
