At the time of launching the JioPhone, the company revealed that it wants to focus on the whole lot of consumers who aren't able to afford a smartphone due to their tight budget. Also, it wants to cater to the needs of those who are not comfortable in using a handset with a touch screen.

Within a few weeks of JioPhone's launch, it was revealed by HMD Global that might come up with the 4G variant of the Nokia 3310 (2017) and now it is official with 4G VoLTE and Wi-Fi Hotspot functionalities. Having said that, here is a brief comparison on both these smart feature phones. Let's take a look at how these phones compare with each other from below.

Both the smart feature phones have a similar 2.4-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. For now, HMD has not revealed the chipset that is used by the Nokia 3310 4G variant while the JioPhone uses a dual-core processor. In terms of storage, the JioPhone has an upper hand with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of default storage space as opposed to 256MB of RAM and 512MB of storage space in the Nokia 3310 4G.

Both the JioPhone and Nokia 3310 4G have a 2MP rear camera but the former has an advantage with a basic selfie camera as well. Also, the JioPhone has a more capacious 2000mAh battery than the 1200mAh battery seen on the Nokia 3310 4G.

YunOS vs KaiOS

YunOS vs KaiOS

Nokia 3310 4G runs YunOS that is a modified version of Android made by Alibaba group. Given that Android is optimized for touch screen devices, you will not be able to download and install APK files on the Nokia 4G feature phone. In addition to this, the device comes with preloaded apps for books, music and audiobooks. There is a chance that it might support toned down versions of Facebook and WhatsApp. If this is true, then the handset will be a better one in comparison to the JioPhone.

On the other hand, the JioPhone runs KaiOS that is a customized version of Firefox OS. The handset has Jio suite of apps such as JioMusic, JioMoney, JioTV, and JioCinema. It is also preloaded with the AI assistant to execute voice commands. It comes with an internet browser and supports using Facebook and WhatsApp Web from the same.

As of now, the Nokia 3310 4G has been unveiled in China and the global variant is expected to be announced at the MWC 2018 tech show. We can expect the pricing of the Nokia 3310 4G to also be revealed at the tech show.

In comparison, the JioPhone is effectively free of cost. Customers can get the smart feature phone on paying an amount of Rs. 1,500 that is refundable after a period of 36 months based on some terms and conditions.

Verdict

Verdict

One way in which the Nokia 3310 4G gains an edge over the JioPhone is the presence of Wi-Fi hotspot functionality that is missing in the latter. This way, you can use your mobile data on other devices and share the same with your family and friends too.

But the JioPhone is better on the whole with an inbuilt voice assistant, better battery capacity, support for NFC payments, and more storage space and RAM. JioPhone comes with the TV Cable that supports mirroring even on normal CRT TVs. Also, it is available at an effective price tag of Rs. 0 making it a worthy one.
