As we are in 2018, it is time for us to witness the announcement of faster, sleeker and more powerful smartphones those are better than their predecessors in all aspects. We are yet to come across the unveiling of major smartphones of this year and a lot of them are slated to happen in the coming days at the MWC 2018 tech show.

Samsung Galaxy S9, Nokia 9, Moto G6 and others expected at MWC 2018

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 is a major tech show that happens in late February to early March every year in Barcelona. This year, the show is all set to debut on February 26 and go on until March 1. Notably, some of the major smartphone announcements are to happen on February 25 that is a day before the commencement of the actual event.

Already, Samsung and Nokia have sent out the media invites for their announcements on February 25 at the MWC 2018 show floor. While the Galaxy S9 duo and Nokia 9 smartphones are likely to be announced a day prior to the tech show, Sony and Asus have scheduled their events on February 26 and February 27 respectively. Here is a curated list of the smartphone launches expected to happen at the MWC 2018.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

Samsung flagship smartphones - the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are the biggest announcements to happen at the MWC 2018 tech show. From the previous rumors and leaks, the Galaxy S9 duo is said to be quite similar to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones in terms of design with thinner bezels and an elongated display.

Apart from that, the Galaxy S9+ is said to get a dual rear camera setup similar while the Galaxy S9 might have a single camera at its rear. These phones are said to sport 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. When it comes to the camera aspects, these phones are said to get a major upgrade with a variable f/1.5 aperture, better low-light photography and super slow-mo mode as seen in the promo videos. Also, a 3D emoji feature is expected as one of the videos hint at the same. The flagship smartphones are likely to arrive with an iris scanner integrated with the selfie camera.

Nokia marked a great comeback last year at the MWC 2017 with the announcement of several devices including the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and Nokia 3310 (2017) in partnership with HMD Global. The Nokia 3310 that was initially launched in the last year in 2G and 3G variants received a 4G variant earlier this year in China. This 4G feature phone from Nokia comes with Yun OS based on Android, Wi-Fi support, 64GB of expandable storage space, and more. We can expect the global variant of Nokia 3310 4G to be unveiled at the upcoming tech show.

Apart from this, HMD Global is believed to unveil a slew of smartphones at the tech show. First, the Nokia 1 is said to be in the making. It is claimed to be an Android Go smartphone that might arrive with an HD IPS display, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage space, and a polycarbonate build. Then, the Nokia 7 Plus is said to be a mid-range smartphone that is likely to be the first full-screen design phone from the company with thin bezels and 18:9 aspect ratio display. It is rumored to arrive with dual cameras at its rear as well.

The Nokia 4 recently popped up in rumors and it is said to be launched with a Snapdragon 450 SoC and the other details of this device remain unknown. The Nokia 9 is believed to be a flagship smartphone and it is rumored to be called Nokia 8 Sirocco. This one is said to be launched with Android 8.0 Oreo, a 5.5-inch OLED display, 128GB storage space, and 3250mAh battery with support for fast charging. We have come across other smartphones such as Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 8 (2018) smartphones as well.

Moto G6, G6 Plus and G6 Play

Lenovo-owned Motorola is expected to host an event at the MWC 2018 tech show. The company is said to unveil a slew of smartphones such as Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play. In addition to these smartphones, we can expect the company showcase Moto X5 and Moto Z3 series as well at the tech show.

The Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play smartphones are said to be unveiled with full-screen design and 18:9 aspect ratio display. The Moto G6 Play could be the most affordable one among the trio and will make use of a Snapdragon 430 SoC and a 4000mAh battery. The Moto G6 is believed to be unveiled with a Snapdragon 450 SoC and 3000mAh battery while the G6 Plus is likely to arrive with a 3250mAh battery.

 

Sony Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium and XZ2 Compact

Sony Xperia XZ Premium of the last year was known for its 4K HDR display and top-end specs but the device couldn't make an impact as it was lacking good cameras. This year, Sony is known to bring about its successor - the Xperia XZ2 Premium with a 4K OLED display of 5.7 inches and 18:9 aspect ratio display. The device is believed to be unveiled along with the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact as well on February 26. The flagship Sony smartphones are likely to be announced with a Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and dual cameras at the rear.

Asus ZenFone 5

Asus is slated to host its launch event on February 28 to unveil the next-generation flagship smartphones under the ZenFone 5 series. The ZenFone 5 is believed to be announced with a Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6GB RAM. Believed to run Android 8.0 Oreo topped with ZenUI, this smartphone from Asus is likely to feature a tall display with 18:9 aspect ratio. A leaked render of the smartphone shows the presence of a notch at the top of the display like the iPhone X. We can also expect this device to be teamed up with a mid-range smartphone to be called ZenFone 5 Lite. This one is likely to arrive with a FHD+ display.

LG V30s

Initially, LG was rumored to unveil the flagship LG G7 smartphone at the MWC 2018 tech show. The Later, we got to now that the company could unveil an upgraded variant of the LG V30 called LG V30s. This one is believed to arrive with improved AI capabilities for image processing as well as voice recognition. The LG V30+ is said to make use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC teamed up with 256GB of storage space.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S

Xiaomi is unlikely to unveil the Mi 7 flagship smartphone at the MWC 2018 tech show. Instead the company is said to bring a new device called Mi Mix 2S. This smartphone is rumored to be launched with a Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB of default memory. The alleged Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is believed to feature a 5.99-inch display.

HTC Desire 12

HTC Desire 12

HTC Desire 12 is speculated to be unveiled at the MWC 2018. The device is believed to feature a 5.5-inch HD+ display with 1440 x 720 pixels and a quad-core MediaTek processor. The HTC smartphone is said to come with a 3GB RAM, expandable storage support up to 2TB, a 12MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie camera and a 2730mAh battery.
