Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro to Feature Upgraded Alert Slider
Apple's next generation of iPhones, due to launch later this year, has been receiving a lot of attention lately, with numerous leaks circulating about its curvier design, thin bezels, and a new solid-state button design.
A new report claims that the iPhone 15 Pro's iconic mute switch has been redesigned to be capacitive rather than a two-way slider, and the volume buttons are unified on the new iPhones.
iPhone 15 Pro to Feature Unified Volume Button
According to a new report by 9To5Mac, Apple plans to ditch the separate volume up and down buttons in favor of a single capacitive button. So, the new button will not click physically but will provide haptic feedback similar to the home button on the iPhone 7 and 8.
When the CAD renders leaked a few weeks ago, we reported that the new Apple phone would go all-in with capacitive buttons rather than physical ones. But then, it was unclear whether Apple would use a single button instead of two.
iPhone 15 Pro's Mute Switch to Have a Pressing Mechanism
Aside from the unified volume rocker, the iPhone 15 Pro's mute switch will reportedly adopt a "pressing" mechanism. This implies that the iconic mute switch will also be capacitive and in line with the rest of the buttons' solid-state design.
The mute switch has been a mainstay of iPhones since the first one came out in 2007, and the slider hasn't changed much in terms of how it looks or works.
If the rumor is true, instead of sliding the switch, users will have to press it between the ring and silent mode.
More iPhone 15 Leaks
This year's iPhones will reportedly feature radical changes in the form of a USB Type-C port instead of the staple Lightning connector, solid-state buttons with haptic feedback, a dynamic island on non-Pro models, and a new design with curvier edges, thinner bezels, and bigger camera bumps.
However, take all these rumors with a grain of salt, as Apple is still months away from taking the wraps off its next generation of iPhones. A lot can change in the coming months, so we'll keep you updated with all the latest news from Apple.
