Everything We Know About Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Chipset
Qualcomm is likely to announce its next flagship smartphone chipset -- the Snapdragon 865 at its upcoming annual summit. This will be a successor to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and is expected to carry a bunch of new features and performance improvements. Here is a summary of what Qualcomm's next flagship mobile chipset might offer.
Based On 7nm EUV Process
Just like the Apple A13 Bionic chipset, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 will be manufactured using the 7nm EUV process. When it comes to smartphone chipset manufacturing, 7nm EUV is the gold standard used by premium chipset makers like Apple, Huawei, and Samsung.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 will undoubtedly be more efficient when compared to the Snapdragon 855. However, the performance-per-watt ratio will remain the same when pitted against Apple's A13 or even Huawei's Kirin 990.
Slightly Slower Than The Apple A13 Bionic
Recent benchmark leaks suggest that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 will be slightly behind the A13 Bionic in terms of single and multi-core CPU performances. The same cannot be said about the Kirin 990 and is likely to offer similar performance where the prime core will be based on Cortex A77 with clock speed going upwards of 3.0GHz.
The chipset will come with next-gen custom Adreno GPU and is likely to offer improved gaming performance compared to its predecessor.
SA and NSA Chipsets
Though Qualcomm has already launched 5G chipsets, the Snapdragon 865 is expected to be the first SA (standalone) 5G processor with a built-in 5G modem. Plus, the company is also expected to launch an NSA (Non-Standalone) version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with a built-in 4G modem.
Support For High-Resolution Cameras
A few rumors suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S11 is likely to support a 108MP camera and the Snapdragon 865 is expected to carry a new ISP with native 108MP resolution processing. Though there are already smartphones with a 108MP camera, a phone with Snapdragon 865 and 100+ MP camera will take the smartphone image processing to next level.
Expected Smartphones To Feature Snapdragon 865 SoC
The Titanium M6 5G is officially the first phone that has confirmed to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Besides, Samsung's Galaxy S11, OnePlus 8, and the Xiaomi Mi 10 are expected to be the first batch of phones to launch with the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
