Huawei Mate Xs Foldable Phone With Kirin 990 5G SoC To Launch In 2020
Huawei Mate Xs, the successor to the Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone, is set to launch in March 2020. The upcoming foldable smartphone will pack the flagship HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset that was announced at the Huawei Mate X China event.
Huawei Mate Xs Launch
The Huawei Mate Xs will feature a similar design like its predecessor. The teaser released by the Chinese company showcases a similar flexible OLED display panel that folds outwards from the center of the smartphone. But a speculated difference is a strip at the edge of the folded screen, which might bear the cameras.
The Huawei Mate Xs will certainly deliver better performance than the Mate X due to the updated chipset. The latter featured a Kirin 980 chipset. However, the upcoming Mate Xs will come with a Kirin 990 SoC that's built on the 7nm+ EUV process.
Moreover, the Huawei Mate Xs will also pack an overclocked Cortex A76 and A55 cores. These will be paired with powerful NPU cores. The foldable smartphone will also pack an integrated 5G modem, unlike the Huawei Mate X that packed an external one.
Huawei Mate X Series
The success of foldable smartphones has been notable recently. Huawei will begin the sale of the Huawei Mate X from November 15 in China, priced at RMB 16,999 (roughly converts to Rs. 1,70,614). The Huawei Mate X features a customized OS that's developed to run on foldable smartphones.
The design of the Huawei Mate X features a 6.6-inch display when folded and opens to an 8-inch display. There's a triple camera setup at the rear that's powered by Leica. The flagship Huawei foldable smartphone packs a 4,500 mAh battery backed by Huawei's 55W SuperCharge technology.
The Huawei Mate Xs might feature a similar design with a few tweaks and even a more powerful battery setup. At the same time, TCL is also gearing up to launch its first foldable smartphone along with manufacturers like OnePlus, Motorola, and others. It will be interesting to see whether these foldable phones are here to stay or will prove to be just another fad in the industry.
