Future OnePlus Smartphones To Have 5G Connectivity

Lately, the OnePlus 7T Pro was unveiled in London along with the McLaren Edition. Prior to that, the company took the wraps off the OnePlus 7T. All these latest models support 4G LTE and it looks like the 7 Pro 5G is in the making. At the latest launch event, the OnePlus CEO left the clue that smartphones they will launch in 2020 will support 5G connectivity.

Future OnePlus Smartphones To Have 5G Connectivity

To the media, the CEO of OnePlus mentioned that they are looking for the suitability of launching a 5G smartphone in the markets where it operates. Depending on the same, it would be planning the features of the upcoming smartphones.

OnePlus 5G Smartphones

Pete Lau said that a flagship trend for 2020 is to have 5G connectivity as a standard option. When it comes to the development of 5G in various countries, there are various stages that they need to plan. For instance, in India, the 5G availability might not turn fruitful next year. So, they will have to launch suitable products in each region.

This makes us believe that OnePlus might launch 5G smartphones in some markets in 2020 while others such as India might get it later. Currently, the first OnePlus 5G smartphone - the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is exclusive to UK's EE. Given that the company CEO had confirmed that they will launch the second 5G smartphone this year itself, we can anticipate the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G to be on cards.

OnePlus 8 To Support 5G

Having said that the future OnePlus smartphones, which means the devices that will be launched in 2020 will have 5G support, we can expect the OnePlus 8, the next-generation model to also support this next-generation connectivity. Recently, the leaked renders of the upcoming OnePlus smartphone were revealed showing a similar design as that of the OnePlus 7 Pro with triple rear cameras wherein the sensors are aligned vertically.

It is believed to have a punch-hole display, a USB Type-C port at the bottom, a similar button layout that we have seen so far, a high-resolution Fluid AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and more.

What We Think

For now, there is no official word regarding the next-generation model, which is likely to be dubbed OnePlus 8. Given that there are nearly six months for the next model to be announced, we can expect the company to shed light on what we can expect from it in the coming days or weeks.
