The Pixel 7a, Google's upcoming budget smartphone, has appeared in numerous leaks, but a new hands-on leak confirms a RAM upgrade and a much-needed refresh rate boost.
Pixel 7a Leak Confirms 8GB RAM and 90Hz Refresh Rate
This new hands-on leak comes from Zing News, and it shows off the upcoming phone's hardware in a series of high-quality photos.

Starting with the back of the phone, the Pixel 7a adopts the iconic visor of the Pixel 7, rather than the all-glass block of the Pixel 6a.
The cameras in the visor are reportedly dual 12MP sensors, but the software couldn't confirm this; more on that later.
Previously, it was reported that the phone's primary camera would have a Sony IMX787 sensor, but this leak contradicts that. There are currently no details available about the front-facing camera.
According to the previous leak, the Pixel 7a will have a 90Hz display, which is a welcome improvement over the Pixel 6a's 60Hz refresh rate. In addition, the 7a will get 8GB of faster LPDDR5 RAM and 5W wireless charging, a first for the 'a' series.
If the leaks are correct, the Pixel 7a will be a value flagship that offers the majority of what its larger siblings do at a fraction of the price.
Aside from specifications, the images show a single SIM slot, a USB-C charging port, and some waterproofing around the SIM tray, which could translate to an IP67 rating like its predecessor.

The device's front features a punch-hole display with a center cutout for the selfie camera.
In terms of software, the device will ship with Android 13 out of the box, as Android 14 is currently in Developer Preview and will be released with the Pixel 8 series later this year.

As per the leak, the phone does not turn on, but the fastboot mode can be accessed, revealing 128GB of onboard storage and the previously mentioned 8GB of RAM.
When Will Pixel 7a Launch?
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 7a at this year's I/O conference on May 10, as the company typically announces mid-range devices at its annual event.
This year's I/O is expected to highlight all of Google's project accomplishments, as well as more information about Android 14 and the Pixel tablet, as well as the possible official unveiling of the Pixel Fold.
Until then, stay tuned as we keep an eye out for new developments in the Pixel smartphones.
