Huawei Mate 30 Comes Void Of US Hardware: Yet US Govt Isn’t Happy
Most of us are aware of the Huawei-US trade fiasco that started earlier this year. The US government accused Huawei of spying for the Chinese government and had also asked its European allies to avoid resourcing Huawei devices for their 5G networks. But despite the ban, the Huawei Mate 30 series debuted loaded with top-end features. Now, a new report suggests that none of its hardware has been made in the US.
The report from the Wall Street Journal does a teardown of the Huawei Mate 30. Surprisingly, there was no hardware that originated in the US. The ban meant Huawei could no longer source smartphone hardware from the US including the network chips.
And rumors were rife that the Chinese tech giant might have difficulties in manufacturing its own hardware from scratch. But the latest teardown of the Mate 30 series indicates Huawei can develop the complete hardware of a smartphone.
This will stop the requirement of buying hardware from other countries, specifically the United States. Sadly, the ban is not just limited to the hardware department. One of the major factors for the Huawei Mate 30 series' unavailability in the global market is the lack of support for the Google Apps.
Considering a number of apps or technologies using Google certificates and licenses to run, Huawei might have difficulties in addressing these issues. It is worth noting that the US government recently gave a respite to Huawei by giving it an extension of 90 days. This was to help minimize the disruptions of its customers.
But the ban hasn't been lifted off completely. Huawei had also said that this extension is not going to impact its business in any way. The company had noted, "This decision does not change the fact that Huawei continues to be treated unfairly either".
It remains to be seen if the United States government will further extend the ban lift in the future. And if it will allow Huawei to source hardware from the US also remains unanswered.
Besides, another report suggests that the Trump administration might expand the reach of Entity list in order to bar Huawei from buying products from foreign brands that are associated with the United States. This could be another big concern for Huawei as it will limit the company from getting sources internationally as well.
