iPhone 15 Lineup to Feature Upgraded UWB Chip for Better Vision Pro Integration
Apple is reportedly working on strengthening the Vision Pro ecosystem by enhancing its integration with the iPhone. According to the latest report, the iPhone 15 will feature a UWB (ultra wideband) chip to improve the performance and reduce power consumption.
The iPhone 15 lineup, which includes the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Ultra, will likely debut in September. Besides a UWB chip, the upcoming iPhone series will reportedly get other hardware upgrades like a USB Type-C port.

iPhone 15: Big Hardware Upgrades Coming
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the tech firm will upgrade the iPhone 15's UWB processor, which it calls the U1 chip, to "build a more competitive ecosystem for Vision Pro."
The U1 chip, first seen in the iPhone 11, helps with the device's location-based features like Find My and Precision Finding. The same processor features in Apple's AirTag, the second-gen AirPods Pro charging case, and the Apple Watch Series 6.
"iPhone 15 will likely see a specification upgrade of UWB, with the production process moving from 16nm to more advanced 7nm, allowing for improved performance or reduced power consumption for nearby Interactions," states Kuo.
According to past reports, the iPhone 15 series will feature a Dynamic Island and a USB Type-C port. All Pro models will feature a titanium body, and the premium iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely feature the thinnest bezels on any smartphone till date.
Moving on to the iPhone 16, Kuo expects Apple to upgrade to Wi-Fi 7. The analyst predicts that this move "will be more conducive to Apple's integration of hardware products running on the same local network and provide a better ecosystem experience."
The Vision Pro, Apple's first augmented reality (AR) headset, was unveiled earlier this month at WWDC. The device will launch next year and will cost a whopping $3,499 (roughly ₹2,88,000). Even before the AR headset hits the shelves in 2024, there's talk of a more affordable device, purportedly called the "Apple Vision One."
