MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G With Helio M70 Modem Unveiled

After a long due MediaTek has officially launched a flagship mobile processor -- the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G that is likely to compete against the Snapdragon 865 SoC. This is also the first processor from MediaTek to be based on the 7nm manufacturing process making it powerful yet efficient.

MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G Technical Specifications

The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G comprises of an octa-core CPU design with little-big architecture. Four high-performance cores based on Cortex A77 run at 2.6GHz and four efficient cores with a clock speed of 2.2GHz are based on Cortex A55 architecture. Plus, it comes with the Mali-G77 MP9 GPU.

This is also the first chipset in the world that supports dual SIM 5G networking. In addition to CPU and GPU, the chipset also comes with a five-core APU that is capable of performing 4.5 TOPs computational tasks. Just like the CPU, the APU also uses little-medium-big architecture with two high-performance cores and two medium-performance cores and an efficient core. These cores will switch the job depending on the computational requirement.

Coming to 5G networking, the chipset has an integrated Helio M70 modem that offers sub-6GHz 5G connectivity. In terms of theoretical speeds, it can handle up to 4.7Gbps of downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink speed.

According to MediaTek, the Helio M70 modem offers 30 more 5G coverage while consuming 42 percent less power compared to Snapdragon's X50 modem. Besides 5G support, the chipset also offers connectivity options like Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

As per the image processing, the chipset can handle native 80MP images or can even support a dual-camera system with 32MP and 16MP cameras. However, as of now, the chipset does not support the 108MP camera that is being featured on the Mi Note 10.

Upcoming Phones With MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G

The company has officially confirmed that the first batch of smartphones featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G will hit the market in December 2019. Besides this processor, the company also has plans to launch mid-tier chipsets with 5G capabilities.
