MediaTek Dimensity 8050 Launched: Features, Specifications

MediaTek has launched a new mid-range chipset for smartphones. Called the Dimensity 8050, the chipset is made on a 6nm process and features an octa-core architecture designed for gaming. While MediaTek is marketing it as brand new, the chipset bears a lot of similarity to the Dimensity 1300 and 1200.

The Dimensity 8050 is built on TSMC's 6nm node, and brings a 5G modem and octa-core CPU with peak speeds of up to 3GHz. It sports four Arm Cortex A78 cores, including a super core along with four power efficient Cortex A55 cores. The Dimensity 8050 also supports 16GB LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

For graphics, the Dimensity 8050 features the ARM Mali G77 GPU with nine cores. The chipset supports 4K video capture, and cameras up to 200 MP with 20% faster night photography.

The Dimensity 8050 also supports Full HD+ displays with up to 168Hz refresh rate or a higher QHD+ resolution with 90Hz refresh rate. There's also MediaTek Miravision that optimises HDR playback.

Debuting on Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G

The chipset is already running inside smartphones as we report. The MediaTek Dimensity 8050 debuted on the Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G. The smartphone launched in Nigeria features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, along with in-display fingerprint sensors.

The Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G features a 50MP RGBW main sensor with sensor-shift OIS, along with an 108MP ultra-wide camera which doubles up as a macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor along with an octa-ring flash.

On the front, the smartphone features a 32MP selfie shooter. The smartphone runs on a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.
