Motorola RAZR Is Made In India And Why Does It Matter?
After hundreds of leaks and speculations, the Motorola RAZR is finally official. It is the first clamshell smartphone in the world with a foldable display and retails for $1,499. The company has also confirmed that the RAZR is on its way to India and expected to go official by the end of 2019.
Though the Motorola RAZR is not the first foldable smartphone to launch in India, it still has some valid points that make it a great option. For starters, the Motorola RAZR is actually made in India. Yes, the company has clearly inscribed on the back of the phone that the device is designed by Motorola and Made In India.
Why Does It Matter?
Just a few years ago, most of the feature phones and smartphones selling in India were imported from China. However, this changed when the NDA govt introduced the "Make In India" initiative by offering subsidies for those who make hardware products like phones in India.
Companies like Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus, Redmi, and Nokia have already started assembling most of their products in India which has helped the brands with the import duty resulting in a portfolio of devices that cost less than the similarly loaded devices imported from China.
In fact, Apple recently started assembling its iPhone XR in India, which was originally launched for Rs. 76,900 is currently available for Rs. 49,900. This is one of the first iPhones to receive a price cut of this caliber which has attracted a lot of audiences across the globe.
Coming back to the Motorola RAZR, though the smartphone is set to retail for $1,499 in the US the device might launch in India at a much lower price as there will be no import duty taxes on the product.
The company might easily launch the Motorola RAZR under Rs. 1,00,000 making it the most affordable foldable smartphone in the country. The registration page for the smartphone is currently live in India, where interested parties can get updates about the arrival of the Motorola RAZR in India.
