New iPhone 15 Pro Renders Suggest An Action Button is Coming After All

The buzz around the iPhone 15 Pro's rumored Apple Watch Ultra-inspired Action Button has been as unpredictable as a rollercoaster ride, with rumors about its inclusion on the upcoming smartphone conflicting back and forth, much like the speculation about the existence of the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE.

Earlier reports suggested that technical complications would force Apple to abandon the idea of solid-state buttons and scrap the Action Button from the 2023 Pro iPhones.

However, new CAD renders obtained by 9to5Mac have now shed light on the situation, revealing that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will, in fact, keep the Action Button, putting all doubts to rest.

iPhone 15 Pro: New CAD Renders

The new CAD renders show that the upcoming Pro iPhones will have an Action Button, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra, but the single-piece volume rocker seen in previous renders will be replaced by a two-piece mechanical volume rocker, similar to the current iPhones.

In addition, 9to5Mac reports that the mute button on the upcoming Pro iPhones will replace the traditional mute switch and offer additional functionality, such as serving as a trigger for global shortcuts like accessing the camera or flashlight. This enhanced feature is expected to provide users with added convenience and ease of access.

To distinguish the iPhone 15 Pro lineup from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models, which are also set to be released, the mute button will only be available on the Pro models. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will stick with the traditional mute switch design.

Camera Protrusions Are Less Comical Here

The recently leaked CAD renders also showcase a major redesign of the camera protrusions on the upcoming Pro iPhones. The earlier renders featured a comically massive camera bump with individual protrusions that were even larger than the entire camera bump on the current iPhone 14 Pro. However, the latest CAD renders reveal a much sleeker and less protruding camera design.

While the iPhone 15 Pro model sports the newly designed camera bump, the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max model appears to have a slightly larger camera bump, fueling ongoing rumors of the inclusion of a periscope zoom lens. However, the smaller iPhone 15 Pro model is not expected to feature a periscope zoom lens this year.

According to 9to5Mac, the information presented in these renders is believed to be accurate and is currently being shared with manufacturers to design accessories for the upcoming Pro iPhone lineup.
