Nokia C1, Android Go Smartphone Announced, But Lacks 4G Support

HMD Global has just taken the wraps off an entry-level smartphone dubbed Nokia C1. This is the latest 3G smartphone from the company. As it is an entry-level offering, it runs Android 9 Pie Go Edition. Eventually, it will have basic features and specifications to make it on par with the other Android Go smartphones.

This smartphone is aimed at select markets such as Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. What's surprising is that this smartphone misses out on 4G LTE connectivity but features a dedicated button to activate Google Assistant at the left for easy and quick access.

Nokia C1 Specifications

To detail its specifications, the Nokia C1 bestows a 5.45-inch FWVGA display with a resolution of 960 x 480 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. As it is an entry-level smartphone, it gets the power from a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. This processor works in conjunction with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space. Also, there is support for expandable storage up to 64GB with a microSD card.

For imaging, the latest Nokia smartphone comes with a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash. At the front, there is another 5MP sensor with an LED flash to click selfies even in low-light. The device weighs around 155 grams and measures around 8.7mm thick.

The connectivity features onboard the Nokia C1 are WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, dual SIM support and 3G. And, the lights are kept on with a 2500mA/h battery operating under its hood. It also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack and FM Radio. And, it will run lightweight apps meant for the Android Go platform.

What We Think About Nokia C1

As it is an entry-level smartphone, the Nokia C1 running Android Go is priced at KES 5999 (approx. Rs. 4,200). But the device lacks 4G connectivity, which is a common feature in the budget smartphone market right now. And, it comes at a time when the 3G services are being discontinued and 5G is eagerly awaited in the global markets.
