OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T receive OxygenOS 5.1.0 update
2017 flagship models from OnePlus get the stable Android 8.1 Oreo update.
While the announcement of the OnePlus 6 is nearing, the company has rolled out the latest software update to the yesteryear flagship models. The OnePlus 5 and 5T have received the OxygenOS 5.1.0, which brings the stable Android 8.1 Oreo build after one month of beta period. This update will be made available in phases.
The OxygenOS 5.1.0 update brings minor changes in terms of the functionality of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. Besides the gaming mode optimizations, the OnePlus 5T gets full-screen gesture support, which was rolled out with the open beta version of the update. Furthermore, these phones get the April security patch as well.
Gaming mode changes
These changes include the optimizations for the gaming mode, which will pause adaptive brightness and save power, network boost for the gaming apps running in the foreground, auto name folders based on the category, and added category tags in the launcher's search section.
Gesture support
As mentioned above, the OxygenOS 5.1.0 brings some features those were first introduced with the Open Beta update for these smartphones. One such feature is the gesture navigation for the OnePlus 5T. This feature lets users hide the on-screen Android navigation keys and replace the same with gestures as in iPhone X. However, this is not available for the OnePlus 5 as it has off-screen hardware navigation keys at the bottom bezel.
In comparison to the beta build, the recent update has improved gesture controls. Given that Android P will support for gestures like iPhone X, we can expect this experience to be improved with the rollout of the update.
OnePlus 6 launch is nearing
OnePlus 6 is all set to be announced on May 5 in China. While there is no official confirmation regarding the launch date, we believe that this smartphone's high-end variant might have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage space. It has already been confirmed to make use of an octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC and feature a display notch.
If you own a OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, then you can check for this update manually too. Do give a try at the new feature and let us know your feedback on the same.
