OnePlus Ends Hasselblad Partnership, Introduces New DetailMax Engine for Upcoming OnePlus 15
OnePlus is preparing for a big change in its smartphone camera strategy. In a new community post, co-founder Pete Lau revealed that the company’s long-running collaboration with Hasselblad is coming to an end, making way for a new in-house imaging platform called the DetailMax Engine.

Five Years with Hasselblad Comes to a Close
Since 2021, OnePlus has leaned on Hasselblad to refine its approach to color science and image processing. The collaboration focused heavily on natural color reproduction, balanced exposure, and realistic image rendering.
According to Lau, this partnership wasn’t just about technology but also about learning. Hasselblad’s influence helped shape how OnePlus thinks about photography, embedding a sense of natural aesthetics into its premium devices.
Now, OnePlus is ready to stand on its own. Lau said the company is grateful for what the collaboration achieved, but it’s time to move forward with its own vision of mobile imaging.
The Arrival of DetailMax Engine
The new DetailMax Engine will debut on the upcoming OnePlus 15. Lau explained that the platform is designed around what users actually want when they zoom into a photo—real clarity and detail, not artificial sharpening.
Rather than relying on flashy post-processing, DetailMax will use advanced computational photography to enhance images in a way that feels true to life. Early internal tests reportedly show promising improvements, and Lau noted that refinements will continue as development progresses.
What This Means for OnePlus Users
For customers, the change means the next flagship won’t carry the Hasselblad branding they’ve grown used to over the past few years. Instead, OnePlus wants the DetailMax Engine to set a new standard for its cameras. The company’s bet is that users care more about results than labels, and it’s framing this move as a step toward more independence and innovation in photography.
While OnePlus hasn’t revealed every detail, the company’s messaging makes it clear that the OnePlus 15 is positioned as a turning point in how its cameras handle detail, sharpness, and realism.
