OnePlus introduces Individual Application Update: Users to get updates faster and more frequently
OnePlus is extracting some of its custom apps for faster updates, both for the apps as well as OxygenOS itself.
As far as software for smartphones is concerned most of the manufacturer usually push out OTA updates to provide new features of pre-installed applications to their users. What's good about this is that most of the updates need not be installed again as a new system application.
As such, these days if you have noticed (whenever you update any app in your smartphone) the OEM applications have been directly uploaded to the Play Store. Previously Google had started separating some of its core apps from the system and the company has added them to Google Play. What happened after that, the move essentially allowed for faster updates to Android in general. Thus today many other manufacturers are doing the same with many of their own custom apps.
While many smartphone manufacturers are now picking up the trend, OnePlus has now announced that they are putting up four applications in Google Play which will help the company to roll out updates faster to their users. The company is calling these Individual Application Updates and it is being made available for owners of the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5.
Besides, OnePlus is adding apps like Launcher, Weather, Gallery, and Community apps in the Play Store now. "It's a small step forward towards the maturation of OxygenOS as a ROM, but we're excited about the increased capabilities this will give our users," says the company in its blog post.
All in all, this move will basically allow OnePlus to update apps with new features much quicker than in the past. These apps will be updated without having to upgrade the whole system.
Moreover, as part of the transition, OnePlus will be releasing Launcher v2.1.5 this week and it can be downloaded from the Play Store directly. As for the changelog, it states that the new update will come with a new optimized home screen folder icon, double finger touch support, general bug fixes and more.
All the above-mentioned applications will not only be updated faster, but the company will also be able to push out more updates than usual.
