OnePlus Open 2 Renders Reveal Slimmer, Curved Design with Larger Displays
OnePlus is preparing to follow up on its successful debut in the foldable market with the OnePlus Open 2. After the OnePlus Open made waves in 2023, fans have eagerly awaited its successor, and now, early renders based on late-stage prototypes give us a clearer picture of what's to come.

Familiar Design with Thoughtful Refinements
The OnePlus Open 2 retains much of the design language that defined its predecessor, particularly the large circular camera module, which remains a signature feature. However, the new model introduces subtle adjustments, including a reconfigured camera layout. The three rear sensors, all reportedly 50MP, are now positioned in the top semicircle of the module, with the Hasselblad branding moved to the bottom.
Another notable change is the shift from a flatter design to curved rear edges, which could improve the phone's ergonomics and overall feel.
Slimmer and Sturdier
One of the standout features of the OnePlus Open 2 is its rumored folded thickness of under 10mm, which would make it one of the thinnest foldables on the market. The device is also expected to feature an IPX8 water resistance rating, a significant improvement over the IPX4 rating of the original Open.
Bigger Displays with Better Performance
The OnePlus Open 2 is set to feature an 8-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2K resolution. This is a step up from the 7.82-inch display on the original model. The outer display is also getting an upgrade, growing slightly to 6.4 inches, which should offer more usability without unfolding the phone.
Power-Packed Hardware
Under the hood, the Open 2 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. These specs position the device as a performance heavyweight, capable of handling multitasking, gaming, and productivity with ease.
The camera system is another highlight. Alongside the 50MP rear sensors (primary, ultrawide, and telephoto with 3x optical zoom), the front cameras will reportedly include 32MP and 20MP sensors, ensuring top-notch photo and video quality.
Enhanced Battery and Charging Capabilities
The battery capacity is rumored to jump to 5,900mAh, a substantial upgrade from the 4,800mAh battery in the original Open (review). Charging speeds are also expected to improve, with 80W wired charging and the addition of 50W wireless charging, a first for OnePlus's foldable lineup.
Launch Timeline
The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to launch in China in early 2025, followed by a global release later in the first quarter of the year. There's speculation that it could be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5, given the close ties between the two brands and their shared technology pipelines.
