Oppo recently unveiled the Oppo Reno 5G in a partnership with Qualcomm and Jio. The Chinese firm is scanning the Indian telecom spectrum to launch its 5G smartphones. According to an Oppo executive, the company is looking for the right time to launch its 5G gadgets in India. Oppo is already working on the dual-mode 5G smartphone.

Oppo 5G Smartphones In India

The Oppo dual-mode 5G mobile platform was announced at the Qualcomm 5G Summit in Barcelona. The upcoming 5G mobile platform will be powered by Qualcomm's dual-mode 5G mobile platform. It is believed that the Oppo 5G smartphone platform will support both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) networks.

 

Coming to India, Oppo grabbed 11.8 percent market share in Q3 and the company will launch the 5G platform at a suitable time. Oppo India's VP of Product and Marketing, Sumit Walia says that the Oppo has "started working on 5G at our Hyderabad research and development center and are significantly working on commercializing 5G devices."

Oppo Scanning Telecom Landscape

Oppo further explained that the company is currently scanning the telecom landscape in the country, which will be a determining factor in how things will move forward. "We are looking for a suitable opportunity and time to introduce 5G products in the Indian market," Walia told IANS.

India has been a strategic market for Oppo. Reports say that Oppo is working on boosting its market share for the following year. Oppo is reportedly targeting a $300-$500 smartphone segment in India in 2020. Presently, the company is investing Rs. 2,200 crores and manufacturing 50 million smartphones in a year at its Greater Noida factory.

So far, Oppo has filed more than 2,500 global patents for its 5G mobile technology. More than a thousand families have been declared as 5G Standard Essential Patents to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Specifically to India, the firm is aiming to increase the smartphone capacity to twice its current size by next year (100 million smartphones), Walia said.
