Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 Launch Date Leaked

Qualcomm is likely to launch a new Snapdragon 7 series chipset this month. The American chip giant has scheduled an event for March 17, indicating a new Snapdragon product could be launching. Based on the rumors doing the rounds, this could be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, considering the previous Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 arrived at a similar time frame last year.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 With Cortex X2 Prime Core Launching Soon

Qualcomm will be hosting an event to announce a new product. The leaked poster has information written in Chinese, along with a date and the Snapdragon logo. This indicates a new Snapdragon SoC will be launching on March 17, 2023. Based on the launch cadence, this could be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

That said, there are little details available about the upcoming chipset. It could possibly be named the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 as well. However, considering it will be coming almost a year later, Qualcomm may look to match the naming scheme of the flagship Snapdragon 8 series, to avoid confusion.

While the information around the chipset is scarce, a Geekbench listing of a smartphone running the chipset has given a glimpse of what to expect.

Qualcomm Prime Core in Non-Flagship Device?

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 is codenamed the Snapdragon SM7475. The chipset comes with a single Cortex X2 Prime core clocked at 2.92GHz, along with three ARM Cortex A710 cores clocked at 2.5GHz, and four ARM Cortex A510 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

The chipset could feature the Adreno 725 GPU with 580Hz clock speed, according to a leakster. Furthermore, the chipset is set to be manufactured by TSMC on a 4nm process.

If the above information remains true, it will be the first time Qualcomm will use the power hungry prime core in a chipset below the flagship lineup. The Cortex X2 core requires significant thermal headroom, which may prod smartphone OEMs to innovate on cooling solutions in the upper mid-range segment.
