While the presentation at the California event highlighted the capabilities of these features, a closer look at the fine print raises questions about their long-term accessibility.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24+ all prominently feature Samsung's new AI features. However, a footnote at the bottom of the page reveals an important detail. The footnote states that "Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties."

Potential Future Costs

Customers who purchase a Galaxy S24 series phone will have free access to these AI features until 2025. Samsung's strategy is in line with an industry trend. For example, Apple launched the iPhone 14 series with a time-limited free Emergency SOS via Satellite feature until November 2025. The question is whether Samsung will follow suit and charge after the initial two-year period.

What's on the Subscription Table?

The wording of Samsung's footnote leaves room for ambiguity. It's unclear whether all AI-powered features in Samsung's Phone, Messages, Gallery, and Notes apps will be subject to a subscription or if the charges will apply specifically to third-party AI-powered features, such as the Circle to Search feature developed in collaboration with Google. As of now, Samsung has not disclosed the pricing details for Galaxy AI features post-2025.
