Samsung Galaxy S8 is the top selling Android smartphone in Q2 2017
Galaxy S8 has still not managed to outsell iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Samsung Galaxy S8, the flagship smartphone that was launched earlier this year seems to be a best-selling Android smartphone in the second quarter of this year.
According to a report from Strategy Analytics, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is claimed to be the best selling Android smartphone between April and June this year. While Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A managed to top the list of best-selling smartphones in the Q1, the Galaxy S8 is claimed to be the top selling Android smartphone in terms of shipments.
The report adds that 10.2 million units of the Galaxy S8 and 9 million units of the Galaxy S8+ were shipped during the second quarter of the year. This totals to 19.2 million units of the flagship duo. The report by the research firm states that the Galaxy S8 has become the world's most popular Android smartphone model soon after its release due to the rich collection of software apps, curved screen design and widespread retail distribution across the global markets.
Despite becoming the most popular Android smartphone on a global scale in Q2 2017, Samsung Galaxy S8 has not managed to outperform the sales of the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. In the global smartphone shipments, Galaxy S8+ and Xiaomi Redmi 4A have occupied the fourth and fifth positions. The first and second spots are occupied by iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with sales of 16.9 million and 15.1 million units respectively in the second quarter that ended in June 2017.
While the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have gained market shares of 2.8 percent and 2.5 percent respectively, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have grabbed market shares of 4.7 percent and 4.2 percent respectively. With a total shipment of 5.5 million units, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A has a market share of 1.5 percent.
