Samsung has come a long way since it first started manufacturing mobile devices. Now the South Korean giant is basically at the forefront of smartphone innovation coming out unique and top of the line products that have further changed the smartphone industry. Besides, with the introduction of its infinity displays, it set a trend for edge-to-edge phones.

Samsung is expected to unveil its 2018 flagships Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ later this month. But from the leaks that we have seen so far, there might not be any major changes and that it will retain the big bezel-less displays. However, the company might be preparing another device that will push the edge-to-edge screen design to another level and that the handset will come with radical design changes.

Well, new Samsung patents have been discovered and it gives us an idea about Samsung's vision for bezel-less phones.

While we are waiting for the day when we will see a full bezel-less smartphone, the company's patent images reveal the exact same thing. There is a drawing of a smartphone with no bezels and quite interestingly there is no notch as well.

Apple came pretty close with iPhone X but the company had stated that the notch is needed to serve as a housing for front-facing parts which include the camera, sensors and the earpiece. However technology is never constant and with its advancement, we might see manufacturers make some progress with this design.

Samsung seems like it is already working on the next big thing and further looking at the patent designs all parts seem to be embedded into the screen including the fingerprint sensor. According to SamMobile, Samsung could require a pressure sensitive display, so that features can be accessed by simply pressing harder on the screen similar to Apple's 3D Touch technology.

The patent though suggests that there will be an on-screen navigation bar with the home button doubling as a fingerprint scanner when the device is locked. Further pressing it harder activates the microphone. Samsung may also allow users to customize these gestures though.

In any case, as of now, there are just patent filings, and it might take Samsung a while before it releases such device in the market. Meanwhile, the company could launch something in 2019 in the Galaxy S series. As fas as rumors go it could be Samsung Galaxy X. There's also no guarantee that such device would reach mass production anytime soon. But we are keeping our hopes high. Samsung with all its resources is one company that can do it.
