Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and Pro Max Launching Today in China: Check Expected Price, Specs, Features
Xiaomi is set to unveil its Xiaomi 17 series in China later today, September 25, at 7 PM Beijing time (4:30 PM IST). The lineup — which includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max — has already been teased through official posters and leaks, giving us a good sense of what to expect when the curtain lifts.

A New Look With the “Magic Back Screen”
One of the most eye-catching design changes this year is the so-called Magic Back Screen. Instead of the typical raised camera island, Xiaomi has built a rectangular plate that frames the lenses and doubles as a secondary display. Users will be able to personalize it with clock faces, GIFs, or avatars, and it’s also tipped to support quick previews.
While Xiaomi has experimented with small rear screens before, this version looks more tightly integrated with the overall design. The real test will be whether it becomes a feature people actually use or just another talking point.

Displays: Slimmer and More Efficient
The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro are confirmed to carry 6.3-inch flat OLED displays with ultra-slim bezels — roughly 1.18 mm on the base model and about 1.1 mm on the Pro. Both use Xiaomi’s M10 luminescence technology, which the company claims offers the industry’s highest luminous efficiency at 82.1 cd/A.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max goes a step further with a newly arranged RGB pixel stack that’s designed to cut power consumption by 26% compared to traditional 2K panels. Xiaomi hasn’t revealed its exact size, only that it will be larger than the other two models.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and HyperOS 3
Under the hood, all three models are set to debut with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. On the software side, they’ll run HyperOS 3, built on Android 16.
HyperOS 3 will bring multitasking features like Super Island, which allows up to three live mini windows, and a new visual design language nicknamed Liquid Glass. Leaked screenshots show glossy icons and frosted, glass-like elements — though we’ll need to see the final build later today to know what ships out of the box.
Batteries and Charging
Xiaomi has also teased improvements to power management.
- The Xiaomi 17 Pro is tipped to include a 6,300 mAh battery with 100W wired and wireless charging, plus IP69 protection and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
- The standard Xiaomi 17 may feature a 7,000 mAh battery, 100W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging, along with an IP68/69 rating.
- Both Pro models are expected to use Xiaomi’s new Jinshajiang battery tech, which combines an L-shaped stacked design with higher silicon content for greater efficiency.
Cameras: New Sensor Meets Leica
Photography will once again be a major focus. The Xiaomi 17 Pro series will debut the Light Hunter 950L sensor, paired with LOFIC HDR technology for a dynamic range up to 16.5EV. The sensor also gets a new optical coating to reduce ghosting, fogging, and glare.
Rumors suggest the Xiaomi 17 Pro will feature a 50 MP main sensor (f/1.67), a 50 MP ultra-wide, and a 50 MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom (f/3.0). The Pro Max may share the same hardware but with a slightly brighter f/2.6 telephoto lens for sharper zoom performance.
Pricing Outlook
There’s still no official word on pricing. Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing has hinted that the 17 series will offer a “comprehensive upgrade” without a price increase compared to last year’s Xiaomi 15, which launched at CNY 4,499 (around ₹53,000) in China. If true, Xiaomi may be positioning the 17 series as a direct rival to Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup while keeping its price advantage.
