Black Shark, the company funded by Xiaomi has taken the wraps off the gaming smartphone in China today. The Black Shark gaming smartphone is similar to the Razer Phone, which is the first gaming-centric phone launched till date. This new device from the company features high-end hardware and a dedicated gamepad controller too, which works with Bluetooth.
The company has made some changes in the interface to ensure that it delivers a good gaming experience. The Bluetooth Gamepad controller can be attached easily to the side of the smartphone without making it too heavy. The latest hands-on video hinted at the presence of the gamepad controller along with the Black Shark phone. The back of the smartphone has a glowing logo and there are green accents on the X-shaped antenna design.

Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone bestows a 5.99-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. At its heart, there operates a 2.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC built using the 10nm process. This processor is teamed up with Adreno 630 GPU teamed up with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB of UFS 2.1 storage space.
Running Android 8.1 Oreo, there are dual nano-SIM card slots in the smartphone. The camera department comprises of a dual-camera setup at its rear. It has a 12MP primary sensor with dual-tone LED flash and f/1.75 aperture and a 20MP secondary sensor with a similar f/1.75 aperture. The selfie camera on board the smartphone is a 20MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
There is a fingerprint sensor at the front, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, USB Type-C and other standard connectivity aspects, and a 4000mAh battery along with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The gamepad controller has the model number H66. It connects using Bluetooth 4.0 and works with phones running Android 4.4 or higher versions. It has a 150mAh battery touted to offer u to 30 hours of usage.

The smartphone comes with the liquid cooling feature, which will ensure that the phone is cool even while gaming. This feature will reduce the core temperature of the CPU by up to 8 degrees. There is a dedicated One-touch Shark key for an immersive gaming experience. The fingerprint sensor can be used to access several features such as DND, silent mode and more during gaming.
There is a dedicated Pixelworks image processing chip with intelligent motion compensation, image enhancement, and dark scene detail processing too. These features ensure that there is a smooth video quality during gaming. There is a unique X-style antenna design to avoid signal issues when holding the device.
Pricing and availability
The Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone is priced at 2999 yuan (approx. Rs. 31,200) for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage space. The high-end variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage space is priced at 3499 yuan (approx. Rs. 36,400). The Bluetooth Gamepad controller is priced at 179 yuan (approx. Rs. 1,800). The gaming smartphone is already up for order in China and the sale will debut on April 20.
It is interesting to see gaming smartphones announced these days to capture the interest of the gaming enthusiasts. Though this market segment is interesting, we are yet to see how these smartphones will be received by the consumers. Especially, in the price conscious markets, we are yet to know when these smartphones will be released.
