Xiaomi Comet and Sirius; Snapdragon 710, OLED display, and more
Two upcoming smartphones from Xiaomi could arrive with OLED display and Snapdragon 710 SoC.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 SoC is the most powerful chipset used by the flagship smartphones of this year. While this processor renders impressive battery and performance management, there are a handful of mid-range chipsets as well. Recent reports have tipped that the upcoming Snapdragon 670 SoC will be the mid-range chipset to be launched this year. The fresh information is that this one could be rebranded as the Snapdragon 710.
A few days back, a report surfaced online tipping that the Snapdragon 670 SoC will power two Xiaomi smartphones to be launched later this year. Now, due to the rebranding, a report by XDA Developers suggests that these upcoming mid-range Xiaomi smartphones will use the yet to be announced Snapdragon 710 SoC.
Codenames revealed
The upcoming Xiaomi handsets are alleged to carry the codename Comet and Sirius. The report adds that the Xiaomi Comet might arrive with an OLED display with the Always On feature, a 3100mAh battery, Android 8.1 Oreo, dual SIM support and an IR blaster. It will miss out on NFC support and a microSD card slot.
Xiaomi Sirius is also speculated to feature an OLED display with the Always On feature. The difference is that it is likely to feature a display notch. The other aspects of this model include dual SIM support, a 3120mAh battery, Android 8.1 Oreo and portrait mode. This one will also lack the support for NFC and expandable storage space.
The previous report tipped these smartphones to be the Xiaomi Mi Note 4 and Mi Max 3. However, this latest piece of news suggests that these phones might not be announced as the OEMs carry out internal testing.
Snapdragon 710 SoC
When it comes to the Snapdragon 710 SoC, the upcoming chipset is said to be a mid-ranger with a dual-core high-end CPU cluster (likely the ARM Cortex A75) and a hexa-core low-end CPU cluster (likely ARM Cortex A55).
While we are not sure if these smartphones will be announced or not, if these are the Mi Note 4 and Mi Max 3, then these phones will probably go official in the next quarter. And, with the Snapdragon 710 Soc, we can expect these Xiaomi phones to be good performers. If this happens, as a Xiaomi fan, will you be interested in buying any of them?
