OPPO looking to expand R&D operations in India
Oppo is looking to expand its product offerings and recently announced a couple of products at its Oppo Inno Day conference. Also, the company is planning to expand its research and development center in Hyderabad or open a new one in Bengaluru in India.

The Oppo R&D center would emphasize research on developing core technologies in hardware, software, AI, augmented reality, Big Data, 5G and 6G, system development, and other such emerging technologies.
Previously, Oppo had announced it plans to open an electronic manufacturing cluster in the Greater Noida region. An investment of Rs. 3,500 crores is said to be directed for the manufacturing unit. The unit is believed to be capable of producing roughly two lakh product units every day.

Oppo is planning to invest $7 billion on research and development globally, said Alen Wu, Oppo's Vice President and President of Global Sales. "We have 6 global institutes and 4 research centers and one of them is in Hyderabad in India. So definitely we are going to be expanding our processes in Hyderabad or possibly in Bangalore to actually invest more in R&D," said Wu.
India is one of the biggest consumer hubs for smartphones and Oppo has been doing well in the country, he said. IANS reports that Oppo is expecting the growth numbers to increase by the end of 2019.
Oppo notes that tech companies will not constrict to the production of smartphones alone. "For Oppo and even the entire industry, there won't be any company solely focusing on smartphones," said Oppo's founder and CEO Tony Chen. The company plans to expand its portfolio by including 'three key strategies' to the expanding seize 5G opportunities.
The strategies include remaining committed to core technology R&D to develop tech; next, Oppo plans to build a multi-portal ecosystem of intelligent devices, where smartphones will be the key accessing point. Lastly, the company aims to rethink user service and optimize its content and service offerings.
