In such cases, you need to be very cautious of suspicious links and always make sure that you're on twitter.com before you enter your login information. Never give your username and password out to third parties, especially those promising to get you followers, make you money, or verify you.

Another key thing is that you need to pay attention to third-party apps built on the Twitter platform that connects with your account. The third party apps that you connect with now have access to all your Twitter data.
They can further take control over your account or take actions that will lead to your account being suspended. Therefore, it's highly important to allow only trustworthy apps to connect to your account.
Update your Computer Software
And yes, you certainly need to make sure that your computer software, including your browser, is up-to-date with the most recent upgrades and anti-virus software.
