Apple's Upcoming M3 iPad Pro Expected to Sport LTPO OLED Screens
Apple is set to enhance its iPad Pro lineup, particularly the M3 models, with a significant shift to OLED technology. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has shared details about OLED M3 iPad Pro tablets, and judging by his praise, the upcoming flagship tablet range from the Cupertino giant does pack a punch.
Tandem Stack Technology and LTPO Backplane
Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch M3 iPad Pro models are rumored to feature an LTPO backplane, similar to the one utilized in Apple's latest iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. A standout feature is the introduction of tandem stack technology, a first in this product category. This technology enhances the durability of the OLED panel by four times while doubling the maximum brightness.

Benefits of Tandem Stack and LTPO
The tandem stack layer not only fortifies the display but also allows for a more slender design, potentially resulting in a slimmer chassis. The LTPO backplane, known for its power efficiency, could contribute to longer battery life on the M3 iPad Pro. This shift from mini-LED to OLED indicates a technological leap, offering users a more vibrant and power-efficient display.
Price Implications and Market Dynamics
While these advancements are promising, the adoption of advanced OLED displays may come at a cost. Reports indicate that the M3 iPad Pro lineup's starting price could be around $1,500, which would be an increase from its predecessors. The true impact on consumers' purchasing decisions remains to be seen, especially since the M2 versions are likely to see a price drop after launch.
Expected Launch and Additional Features
The anticipated launch window for the M3 iPad Pro is the first half of 2024, with the base model iPads potentially debuting in the first quarter. Apart from OLED screens and tandem stack displays, rumors suggest the integration of Apple's M3 chipset and MagSafe support. A potential switch to a glass back panel for wireless charging is also on the cards.
Overall, the introduction of tandem stack technology, coupled with LTPO OLED screens, promises a more durable, power-efficient, and visually immersive user experience.
