Google Pixel Tablet Arrives on FCC With UWB Connectivity

The Google Pixel Tablet was spotted on the FCC database, suggesting that the upcoming tablet will include support for ultra-wideband (UWB) connectivity. The device was teased last year at Google's I/O 2022 conference.

What is UWB?

The Google Pixel Tablet arrived on FCC with the model number GTU8P. The listing reveals that the tablet will support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, as well as UWB connectivity. For those in the dark, UWB is a short-range wireless communication technology.

Thanks to its directional accuracy, the UWB tech can be utilized for precise location tracking. Devices equipped with UWB can transmit data at extremely high speeds within short distances.

UWB radio waves can track down an object's location with high accuracy. Although other types of tracking methods such as Bluetooth and GPS are fairly accurate, UWB is even more precise. In addition, the technology consumes less power.

UWB has already been adopted by tech firms such as Apple in the manufacture of AirTags and Samsung for its Galaxy SmartTag+. Google's flagship Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro also support UWB.

So far, the Pixel series of smartphones appear to have underutilized UWB, using it as a digital car key. We can't expect the same feature on the Google Pixel Tablet, since the tablet will have a larger form factor.

According to a 9To5Google report, the upcoming Pixel Tablet could get a Tap-to-transfer system. It is speculated that UWB could also be used to track the device.

The upcoming Google Pixel Tablet will be powered by a Google Tensor G2 processor. According to rumors, the device could sport a 10.95-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels.

In addition, the tablet could come in 128GB and 256GB storage models. The device will also get a magnetic dock and 18W fast charging support. We can expect more details regarding the Pixel Tablet to surface in the coming weeks.
