Meta Is Offering $250,000 “Mixed Reality Fund”: Indian Applications Now Welcome To Pitch Ideas
Meta is actively seeking startups in India to fuel its Virtual Reality endeavor. The Metaverse owner and Quest VR headset manufacturer is offering $250,000 for Indian startups and developers to build apps and experiences for its Meta Quest Platform.
The Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp owner claims it is looking nurture innovation and build an ecosystem of XR technologies in the country. Let's see how Indian startups in the field of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality can benefit from this fund infusion.

Meta Will Nurture Five Indian Startups And Help Build Ideas For The XR Ecosystem
Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President for Meta in India, said "Meta is committed to building the XR ecosystem in India. The Presence Platform is an integral part of the metaverse vision, aiming to make virtual experiences more tangible and accessible."
In the inaugural batch, Meta will put up $250,000 (approx. ₹2,05,07,050), and select up to five Indian developers and startups. These fledgling businesses will receive a financial grant, along with dedicated mentoring and guidance from the Meta Reality Labs experts.
In addition to the funds and mentorship, these Indian startups, "will also have an opportunity to upload their product to Quest App Lab and become part of Meta's growing developer ecosystem. Selected startups will also get an introduction to leading local venture capital funds at the end of the program."
Why Is Meta Funding Indian Startups Working In AR, VR, And MR?
Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality are the buzzwords right now. Meta may not have achieved the level of success it hoped with the Metaverse, but the company owns Quest. Meta recently announced Quest 3, which will succeed Quest 2, and Quest 2 Pro.
Meta is deeply invested in the world of AR, VR, and MR. The company even launched a subscription for the Quest VR gaming section.
Simply put, Meta intends to capture the Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality markets before Apple starts selling its Vision Pro. And the company needs new apps, platforms, services, and products that will improve the Quest experience.
Additionally, with the Mixed Reality program in India, Meta is hoping to accelerate the creation and adoption of VR and MR experiences in the country. This funding and mentorship would also help Indian developers to go global quickly and scale their innovative products quickly.
The Meta Mixed Reality program in India is now welcoming applications from across the country. The program is open to both established and new startups and developers.
Finalists will need to incorporate features that Meta has developed, into their new or existing Meta Quest apps. These include Passthrough, Scene Understanding, Spatial Anchors, Shared Spatial Anchors, Voice SDK, Text to Speech, Interaction SDK for Hand Tracking, and Social Presence APIs.
