Airtel, Reliance Jio To Offer Incentives to Retailers For Porting SIMs To Their Network
After revising their prepaid plans, telecom operators have come up with a new strategy for retailers. Both Airtel and Reliance Jio are offering incentives to retailers, who can attract more users, the Economic Times reported.
The report states that Airtel is offering Rs. 100 to its retailers if they convert two Jio users into Airtel. On the other hand, Reliance Jio will provide Rs. 100 to its retailers, if they sold a new SIM card. However, Vodafone Idea is not offering any incentives.
"After the increase in tariffs, followed by Airtel and VIL (Vodafone India Ltd) making their free calls unlimited, these incentives were given to push us to get more customers from them," Jio distributor was quoted by ET.
This development comes a week after operators introduced new tariff plans for their prepaid customers, where Reliance Jio is still charging for outgoing calls. And incumbents like Airtel and Vodafone have announced new plans with free unlimited calling.
However, Jio has now come up with two new affordable plans launched at Rs. 98 and Rs. 149 plan. "Effectively, this has brought down the minimum tariff plan... This, in our view, does create meaningful pressure on the incumbents to react," said JP Morgan in a note to ET.
As per the listing on Jio's website, the Rs. 98 plan prepaid plan offers 300 SMS for 28 days. It ships 2GB data for the entire duration. It includes free Jio-to-Jio calls. But users have to pay for calls to non-Jio networks. The Rs. 149 plan offers 24GB data for 24 days, which translates 1GB data per day.
Besides, users will get 100 SMS per day and a free subscription to all Jio apps. It includes free calls to the same network and 300 minutes to non-Jio users. It seems the tariff war between both Reliance Jio and Airtel is not going to end soon as both operators are coming up with new schemes with each passing day.
