BSNL to cancel free Sunday calls from February 1

Earlier this month, BSNL changed the time of the free night calls for the broadband plans and it was effective starting from January 1, 2018. Previously, the free night calling time was from 9 PM to 7 AM but the same was changed so that it will be effective only from 10:30 PM to 6 AM for the broadband users. Along with this, the state-run telecom operator also announced that it stop offering free voice calls on Sundays with the same already being effective in some circles.

Now, BSNL has announced that it will withdraw the free voice calling benefits that the landline users have been enjoying on Sundays starting from February 1. The decision has come after the company decided to cut down on the free night calling benefits for the broadband users.

As per PTI, SP Tripathi, the Chief General Manager at CalTel (Calcutta Telephones) states, BSNL is going to withdraw the free Sunday calling benefit from February 1. This will happen nationally. But, from Calcutta Telephones, we are working on some plans which I think will mitigate the impact for our customers." Notably, CalTel is BSNL's Kolkata unit.

So from February 1, BSNL customers who have subscribed for the FTTH, landline, broadband and combo plans will be charged on Sundays just like any other day. It will be applicable on both the existing and new customers too. Still, the users can enjoy the free night calling for the new timing on Sundays too.

If you don't remember, BSNL introduced the free night calling and free Sunday calling plans in August 2016. Having canceled the free calls on Sundays and changed the time of free night calls, we can expect the users of the service who were making use of these plans face a major blow. In the current competitive arena, there is no concrete reason that has made the operator take this move.

The unlimited broadband plans from BSNL start at Rs. 499 and not all these plans come with bundled free voice calls. It is limited to some plans such as the BB249 and a few other combo plans.
