Idea Rs. 998 and Rs. 1,298 prepaid plans: Should you recharge?

Idea Cellular has introduced two new unlimited prepaid recharge packs priced at Rs. 998 and Rs. 1,298. Similar to the other unlimited packs, these new ones from the telco also offer unlimited voice calls and limited data and SMS benefits. However, the downside of these plans is the very limited validity, which is not on par with that of the plans offered by other telcos. And, these plans are valid only in select circles for now.

The Rs. 998 prepaid plan from Idea Cellular offers unlimited voice calling, 5GB of data on the whole and 100 SMS per day. The validity of this plan is 28 days. On the other hand, the Rs. 1,298 prepaid plan from Idea Cellular offers similar benefits and 7GB data on the whole and is valid for 35 days.

Though these plans are said to provide unlimited voice calls, there is a limit of calls 100 unique numbers per week and 1000 minutes per week. The per day limit is 250 minutes of voice calls. On crossing the FUP, users will be charged for the additional voice calls as per the prevailing rates.

As mentioned earlier, these new Rs. 998 and Rs. 1,298 prepaid plans from Idea Cellular are not on par with the company's own unlimited prepaid plans. Notably, Idea Cellular has prepaid plans costing Rs. 697, Rs. 897 and Rs. 1,197 offering 1.5GB to 2.5GB data per day and unlimited calls. These plans are valid for a long period of 70 days.

Also, the telco is offering a prepaid plan priced at Rs. 199 offering 1.4GB of data per day, 100 SMS per day and unlimited voice calls with daily and weekly FUP and this plan is valid for 28 days. Other Idea Cellular plans with variable validity and similar benefits are priced at Rs. 309, Rs. 357, Rs. 399, Rs. 448 and Rs. 509.

While there is no clarity on why the company has come up with these new unlimited prepaid plans, interested subscribers can recharge with these plans. Moreover, both these Rs. 998 and Rs. 1,298 plans are valid for the Idea Magic cashback offer, which offers up to Rs. 3,300 worth benefits for the users.
