OnePlus 13 and 13R Introduce 5.5G Connectivity in India with Jio: What It Means for Users
OnePlus officially launched the OnePlus 13 series in India, featuring the OnePlus 13 and the OnePlus 13R. These new flagship smartphones aren't just about top-tier specs and sleek designs-they also mark a significant milestone by introducing 5.5G connectivity to the Indian market in collaboration with Reliance Jio.
This next-generation network promises faster speeds, more stable connections, and broader coverage, taking mobile connectivity to the next level.

What is 5.5G?
5.5G, also known as 5G Advanced, builds on the existing 5G infrastructure to deliver higher speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability. It allows devices to connect to multiple network cells, even from different towers, ensuring seamless connectivity in challenging environments like elevators, underground parking lots, or crowded stadiums.
During the launch event, OnePlus showcased the potential of 5.5G by demonstrating speeds of over 1,014 Mbps on Jio's 5G-Advanced 3CC network, which far outpaces traditional 5G speeds. For everyday users, this translates to faster downloads, quicker app updates, and a more stable connection in places where signal quality typically falters.
How 5.5G Benefits Everyday Users
The collaboration with Reliance Jio has made 5.5G a reality for the OnePlus 13 series in India. Beyond faster speeds, this technology ensures better network stability, particularly in scenarios where connectivity often drops. For instance, during internal tests, OnePlus reported that WhatsApp calls in elevators were 20% more stable on the OnePlus 13 compared to competing flagship devices.
In crowded environments like stadiums, the improvement was even more pronounced, with a 75% increase in call stability compared to other high-end smartphones.
The Role of Project Starlight
The 5.5G integration is part of OnePlus's Project Starlight, an initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and user experience in India. Launched in December 2024, Project Starlight focuses on bringing advanced network capabilities to Indian users while ensuring better device durability and customer support.
As part of this initiative, OnePlus has also committed to expanding its service centers in India by 50% by 2026, underlining its focus on improving after-sales support.
