TRAI Data: Reliance Jio Adds 69.83 Million Customers In September
According to TRAI data, both Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost 49 lakh users in September this year, whereas, Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio added 69.83 lakh customers, during the same month. Besides, the total wireless subscribers increased to 1,173.75 million from 1,171 million at the end of August.
In fact, wireless subscription in rural areas increased to 514.56 million from 508.25 million. The data shows that Airtel lost 2.4 million customers in September. Similarly, Vodafone Idea lost 2.5 million users in the month, to take its total user base to 37.24 crore.
In addition, the data reveals that Airtel has managed to garner 27. 74 percent market share, Vodafone Idea captured 31.73 percent share, and Reliance Jio achieves 30. 26 percent market share, during the same month. Furthermore, the data pointed out that broadband subscribers in the country have also increased the end of September 2019 with a monthly growth rate of 1.62 percent.
TRAI also highlighted the top providers of broadband i.e. Reliance Jio Infocom with 355.93 million subscribers, Bharti Airtel with 127.83 million users, Vodafone Idea with 112.19 million users, BSNL has 21.52 million subscribers, and Atria Convergence has 1.48 million at the end of the same month.
The data said that as of September 30, 2019, the top five Wired Broadband Service providers were BSNL, Bharti Airtel, Atria Convergence Technologies, Hathway Cable & Datacom, and You Broadband. Whereas the top five Wireless Broadband Service providers were Reliance Jio Infocom, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL, and MTNL.
It is worth mentioning that now all telecom players are planning to increase tariff prices by next month, which is likely to end the ongoing consolidation in the telecom industry. However, none of the telcos have shared the exact pricing. So, it would be interesting to see how customers will act after the revision.
