Reliance Jio Becomes Largest Revenue Generator In September Quarter: TRAI
Reliance Jio has managed to garner revenue of Rs. 685.54 crore from the Gujarat circle in the September quarter. This also makes Jio the largest revenue generator operator in the telecom industry. Whereas, India's largest telecom operator by subscriber base Vodafone Idea received Rs. 626.12 crore during the same period.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel posted flat growth in the September quarter. The company has achieved AGR of Rs. 172.84 crore as against Rs. 173.2 crore in June. However, TRAI data reveals that the total AGR of operators in the circle has increased by 3.82 percent. Thanks to Jio and BSNL performance.
The data stated that the AGR of Jio is increased by 11 percent, in the same quarter. Similarly, BSNL witnessed an 11 percent increased in its AGR. As per the data, the overall AGR of telecom operators is increased by 3.82 percent to Rs. 1,588.37 crore, in the circle. When it comes to market share, Jio is also leading in that segment with a 4.83 percent share.
While Vodafone has a 40 percent market share in Gujarat. Airtel has 11 percent share, and BSNL has 5 percent. The data shows that the total mobile subscription has also increased in the circle during the quarter ended in September.
The data reveals that Jio added 3.6 lakh subscribers in Gujarat, BSNL has added 5,700 subscribers in the same circle. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea lost 2.71 lakh customers. Whereas, Airtel loss 67,000 users during the same period.
For the unaware, the average gross revenue (AGR) is tho parts i.e spectrum usage charges and licensing fees. The AGR is calculated between 3 to 5 percent and 8 percent, respectively. According to the Department of Telecom, these charges are calculated based on the revenue received by the operators. This includes all means of sources such as revenue earned by asset sales and deposits interests.
